Amba Dalmia Scholarship 2018

Four bright Indian women have been awarded the Amba Dalmia scholarships for the year 2018 to pursue higher studies at French universities and institutions of academic excellence.

The Joint Statement of the French President and the Indian Prime Minister acknowledged the importance of augmenting student mobility between the France and India. In this context, the Franco-Indian Education Trust, a not-for-profit charitable and educational Trust was established on 31st August 2017. The Trust is a joint initiative of the Embassy of France in India and Mr. Prshant K Lahoti, Managing Trustee of Krishnakriti Foundation and co-founder of Kalakriti India. It will support mobility of students, faculty, researchers and young professionals in diverse domains from India to France and from France to India for any long term or short term training or academic programme, leading to a degree or not, through grants, scholarships, fellowships.A first donation came in April 2018 towards the Trust to institute a special scholarship programme called the Amba Dalmia Scholarship for Indian women applicants pursuing their studies in music, theatre, sports, arts, cinema, ballet, opera, philosophy, painting or photography in France. Following a call for applications, 4 candidates were selected out of 30 and will travel to France to pursue their programmes in September 2018.

Offering top quality education and scientific facilities at reasonable fees, France today ranks third globally among countries welcoming the highest number of foreign students, yet has only 5,000 students from India. The French government currently invests 1 million euros (7 crores rupees) in over 500 scholarships per year in India. The Trust aims at doubling the number of scholarships that France gives every year to Indian students.
