Semaine de la Francophonie 2018

The French language is in perpetual motion. Its words stir, both the past and the present, but also the future to which tens of millions of men and women invest on a daily basis.

It is the Primary language of initial or partial teaching in 35 states and governments. More than 76 million pupils and students have it as the language of instruction of which 54 millions in sub-Saharan Africa and in the Indian Ocean. The Agence universitaire de la Francophonie brings together nearly 845 educational institutions and research in 111 countries and has 60 representations in 40 countries.

People across five continents, push the confines of space covered by the 84 states and Francophone governments. The French language traces the geography of the world by creating links between people, islands and continents. It defies borders, defies distances, and invites us to transcend our differences. In the name of a shared vision of our human destiny, which can only flourish peacefully in a globalized environment more equitable, more democratic, more respectful of the common good of humanity.

Join us in celebrating the French language during 'La Semaine de la Francophonie'.
