Martha-Maria Le Bars

Plastician

My main objective is to undertake a research and creation project based on knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the study of materials. I want to pay attention to the future of materials, immersed in the vibrant colours of Jaipur and its surrounding area. How to approach colour from this new point of view, while enhancing the use of local resources? How to create a cross-disciplinary integration of craft techniques?

Painter through sculpture and sculptor through painting, Martha-Maria Le Bars develops in situ protocols in order to create speculative environments or landscapes that allow colour to be independent in its deployment. Since her training in textile design at the Duperré school, Martha-Maria has integrated the craft and textile know-hows in her artistic practice. She develops and suggests new ways of painting, moves away from the traditional stretcher frame, and builds her own tools. She applies an autonomous form of painting governed by new gestures, where colour spreads in three dimensions through installation. As a counter-current to globalisation, she works with slowness, gentleness and fragility, and operates at different speeds. Her work describes a world in motion, in evolution, in metamorphosis, sometimes in extinction.
