The Institut Français de Pondichéry is the oldest french research center in India, created in 1955 by the Treaty of Cession of French Territories in India. It is now part of the 27 research centers of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, with. It is also a affiliated research institute of the Pondicherry University

Today, IFP counts 80 people, and 4 research departments :Indology / Social Sciences / Ecology /and a transversal laboratory of applied informatics and geomatics
